Natural medication shown to not always be a safe alternative to synthetic medication

The common perception that if medication is natural then it must be safe has recently come under fire from a researh by a Consumer Reports magazine. The consumer publication found a dozen herbal supplements, some banned in Asia, Europe and Canada but widely available in the United States, may cause cancer, kidney or liver damage and even death.

Study compares mental health-related ED visits between children with and without ASD

In the first study to compare mental health-related emergency department (ED) visits between children with and without autism spectrum disorders (ASD), researchers found that ED visits are nine times more likely to be for psychiatric reasons if a child has an ASD diagnosis.

Exposure to multiple estrogen-mimicking chemicals distorts hormone action

For years, scientists have been concerned about chemicals in the environment that mimic the estrogens found in the body. In study after study, researchers have found links between these "xenoestrogens" and such problems as decreased sperm viability, ovarian dysfunction, neurodevelopmental deficits and obesity.

Queensland Health pay bungle continues into June

The new payroll system for Queensland health care staff introduced this March is still not fixed even at the end of the sixth fortnightly pay cycle. Many have been over, under or not paid after the system was introduced. More to the "shame" of the authorities two dead nurses have been paid and one dead nurse's name reappeared in the duty rosters.
