febit releases updated Geniom Biochip containing 58 new miRNA sequences

febit today announced that an updated version of the company's Geniom Biochip containing 58 new discovered sequences in addition to all of the Homo sapiens microRNAs (miRNA) from miRBase version 14 is now available for cancer research. The 58 new miRNA sequences were found by deep sequencing in a miRNA discovery study performed on an Applied Biosystems SOLiD 3 sequencing system. All 58 miRNAs have been validated using the ABI TaqMan miRNA qRT-PCR assay and are now available for further studies using febit's microarray technology for miRNA-profiling.

Heavy drinkers at risk of lasting brain damage sooner rather than later

Researchers at Saint Louis University have shown, in a new animal study, that chronic alcohol consumption produces memory loss and learning problems in very heavy drinkers much sooner than previously thought.

Macroplastique effective for stress urinary incontinence in women

Uroplasty, Inc. highlighted results from a two-year, multicenter clinical study of Macroplastique that will be published in the April 2010 print edition of The Journal of Urology(R). The 24-month study evaluated the durability of Macroplastique for stress urinary incontinence in women with previously documented success at 12 months. Substantial, durable results were sustained during 2 years with 84% of patients maintaining significant improvement from their 12-month assessment. Additionally, 67% of the patients implanted with Macroplastique were dry at the 24-month follow-up visit.
