Yakult Honsha commences perifosine Phase 1/2 trial for refractory advanced colorectal cancer in Japan

Aeterna Zentaris Inc. today announced that its Japanese partner, Yakult Honsha, has initiated a Phase 1/2 trial in Japan to assess the safety and efficacy of the Company's PI3K/Akt inhibitor, perifosine, in combination with chemotherapeutic agent, capecitabine, in patients with refractory advanced colorectal cancer ("CRC").

Anavex to commence phase I clinical trial in Alzheimer's disease

Anavex Life Sciences Corp. ("Anavex") (OTCBB: AVXL) has announced that its clinical trial application (CTA) for ANAVEX 2-73, the company's lead compound for Alzheimer's disease, has been approved by the German regulatory health authority, BfArM. The Phase I trial of ANAVEX 2-73, which includes testing in healthy human volunteers, will commence immediately. In this Phase I program Anavex will assess the safety, maximally tolerated dose, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of ANAVEX 2-73.

NVHR supports IOM report on inadequate federal funding for chronic viral hepatitis

With today's release of a landmark study by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Hepatitis and Liver Cancer: A National Strategy for Prevention and Control of Hepatitis B and C, finding that inadequate public-health resources are being allocated to national and local prevention, control, and surveillance programs, the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR) today renewed its call for the Administration, Congress, and the entire health care system to take immediate and decisive action to implement the report's key recommendations.
