Intensity modulated radiation therapy reduces breast cancer treatment side effects

Women with early stage breast cancer who receive a newer type of radiation called intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) develop significantly fewer side effects than women who receive traditional radiation therapy, according to a study released in the August 1 edition of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology * Biology * Physics, the official journal of ASTRO.

DCDC2 gene linked to dyslexia

Pediatric researchers at Yale School of Medicine have identified a gene on human chromosome 6 called DCDC2, which is linked to dyslexia, a reading disability affecting millions of children and adults.

Meeting needs of children living with, affected by HIV 'central' to PEPFAR mission

"Meeting the needs of children, including both children living with HIV and those affected by the disease in other ways, is not peripheral to PEPFAR's mission - it is central," U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Ambassador Eric Goosby writes in USAID's "DipNote" blog, adding, "It's a responsibility, and an opportunity as part of our push toward an AIDS-free generation."
