MDI Biological Laboratory investigator awarded NIH grant for research on peripheral neuropathy

The MDI Biological Laboratory has announced that Sandra Rieger, Ph.D., has been awarded a highly competitive grant from the National Cancer Institute, an institute of the National Institutes of Health, to study the molecular mechanisms underlying chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, a side effect of cancer chemotherapy causing symptoms such as pain, tingling, temperature sensitivity and numbness in the extremities.

Promising results from TheraTears Nutrition pilot trial in dry eye patients

Advanced Vision Research, Inc. today announced the publication in the journal Cornea of promising results from a pilot trial of dry eye patients taking TheraTears® Nutrition. The study demonstrated a reduction in dry eye symptoms and an increase in tear volume and tear flow for those patients taking TheraTears® Nutrition, an optimized blend of medical grade essential omega-3 oils, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and flaxseed oil.

Use of frozen stool for fecal transplant successfully treats C. difficile infection

Using frozen stool from healthy, unrelated donors was safe and effective in treating patients with serious, relapsing diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile, according to a new pilot study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases and available online.

Argos presents positive AGS-003 Phase 2 data for newly diagnosed advanced renal cell carcinoma at ASCO

Argos Therapeutics today announced the presentation of positive interim data from a Phase 2 trial that evaluated the clinical activity, safety and immune response of AGS-003 treatment, given in combination with sunitinib, in patients with newly diagnosed advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The data were discussed June 7 in a poster session at the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), held in Chicago, IL.
