IOF report: 80% of patients with fracture are not screened for osteoporosis or risk of future falls

Today, the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) released a new report, revealing approximately 80 percent of patients treated in clinics or hospitals following a fracture are not screened for osteoporosis or risk of future falls. Left untreated, these patients are at high risk of suffering secondary fractures and facing a future of pain, disfigurement, long-term disability and even early death.

Artificial disc replacement may provide better long-term results at reduced cost

When physical therapy and drugs fail to relieve back or neck pain, patients often turn to spinal fusion surgery as a last resort, but two new studies show that in certain situations, especially when several discs are involved, artificial disc replacement may give better long-term results at lower cost.

W. L. Gore & Associates announced the GORE PROPATEN Vascular Graft for hemodialysis access has received CE Mark. Arteriovenous Grafts are used to create a conduit for repeated blood access during hemodialysis, allowing blood to be withdrawn from the body and cleansed when a patient has End Stage Renal Disease, commonly referred to as kidney failure.

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation: Physical medicine and rehabilitation, also referred to as rehabilitation medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with diagnosing, evaluating, and treating patients with physical disabilities. These disabilities may arise from conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system such as neck and back pain, sports injuries, or other painful conditions affecting the limbs, such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Alternatively, the disabilities may result from neurological trauma or disease such as spinal cord injury, head injury or stroke.
