Hospira acquires global rights to biogeneric filgrastim from PLIVA

Hospira, Inc. (NYSE: HSP), a global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company, today announced the acquisition of worldwide rights to a biogeneric version of filgrastim and an affiliated European manufacturing facility from PLIVA Hrvatska d.o.o. (Zagreb, Croatia) (ZSE: PLVA-R-A), a move that will help extend Hospira's reach and vertical integration in biogenerics. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

On quality of care, U.S. is not always best

The Washington Post interviewed Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., about other developed nations' health care systems: "We won't adopt the German system or French system or anything of the like. But I think we can get clues on the fundamental differences of various systems," he said. Children with higher waist circumferences more likely to have heart-related disorders: Researchers

In a study of more than 4,500 children, researchers found those with higher waist circumferences had significantly higher pulse pressures, which is known to increase the risk of heart-related disorders, according to an abstract presented today at the American Society of Nephrology's Renal Week conference in Denver.
