Stem cells for stroke: Clinical trial commences

Researchers have started the world's first clinical trial of stem cells to treat stroke victims in Glasgow. The trial is undertaken by ReNeuron, a Guildford-based biotech company and started this weekend with an elderly man receiving an injection of 2 million stem cells into his brain. It received final approval to go ahead this year.

PSA remains the best measure of the likelihood of prostate cancer recurrence after surgery

Despite recent claims by some urologists that measuring the blood protein prostate-specific antigen (PSA) may not be effective in predicting risk of prostate cancer, a Johns Hopkins study of more than 2,000 men confirms that PSA remains the best measure of the likelihood of cancer recurrence after surgery.

AR-V7 status does not affect response to taxane chemotherapy in patients with mCRPC

Findings from a small prospective study suggest that androgen receptor V7 (or AR-V7) status does not significantly affect response to taxane chemotherapy in men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Treatment outcomes were largely similar for the 17 patients with AR-V7-positive prostate cancer and the 20 patients with AR-V7-negative disease included in this analysis.

Run for Healthy Heart attracts over 2,000 participants

In association with the Billion Hearts Beating Foundation, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals organised a 5-km run titled 'Dil ki Daud'. In the wee hours of Sunday, more than 2,000 people participated in the 5-km run, which kicked off at 6:45 am. India's first blade runner and Kargil War amputee hero Retd. Major Devender Pal Singh - also participated in order to encourage the runners for a healthy living.
