Early infection screening programs may lead to lower rates of HIV transmission

Detecting HIV earlier, through screening programs that can identify the virus shortly after infection, may lead to lower rates of HIV transmission in local epidemics, suggest findings from a new study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases and available online.

No specific antiretroviral drug-related "Crix belly" syndrome

Contrary to the concerns of many HIV-infected patients, there appears to be no specific antiretroviral drug-related "syndrome" of changes in body fat distribution in men wherein leg and arm fat decrease as belly fat increases, reports a study in the October issue of Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes (JAIDS).

Aeolus Pharmaceuticals second quarter 2010 net loss increases to $0.10 per share

Aeolus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today financial results for the three months ended June 30, 2010. The Company reported a net loss of $4,623,000, or $0.10 per share, compared to a net loss of $426,000, or $0.01 per share, for the three months ended June 30, 2009. The third quarter 2010 results include a non-cash financing and change in valuation charge of $3,856,000. Loss from operations for the three months ended June 30, 2010 were $750,000 compared to $445,000 for the three months ended June 30, 2009.

Virus-free embryonic-like stem cells made from skin of Parkinson's disease patients

Researchers reporting in the March 6th issue of the journal Cell , a Cell Press publication, have developed a new way to produce human embryonic-like stem cells that are free of the viruses used to insert the key ingredients.
