QLT USA settles U.S. patent litigation

QLT Inc. announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, QLT USA, Inc. (formerly Atrix Laboratories, Inc.) has reached an agreement to settle the litigation captioned "TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc., Takeda Chemical Industries, Ltd. and Wako Pure Chemical Industries, Ltd. v. Atrix Laboratories, Inc. and Sanofi-Synthelabo Inc.," # 03-C-7822, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the appeal pending therefrom in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

UMass Amherst neuroscientist to receive 2012 Frank A. Beach Award from SBN

UMass Amherst neuroscientist Luke Remage-Healey will receive the 2012 Frank A. Beach Award from the Society for Behavioral Endocrinology for work showing exceptional promise and significant contributions in the field of behavioral neuroendocrinology. Named after a founder of the field, the award will be presented during the society's annual meeting this week in New Orleans. IMPROVE HF clinical trial results presented at annual HFSA meeting

Twenty-four month findings from IMPROVE HF, (The Registry to Improve the Use of Evidence-Based Heart Failure Therapies in the Outpatient Setting), funded by Medtronic, Inc., demonstrated that clinics using the process improvement program increased adherence to evidence-based, guideline-recommended care by 82 and 62 percent, respectively, for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) use, and 80 percent for aldosterone antagonist use, all relative to baseline results.

European CHMP recommends Merck's JANUVIA and JANUMET as add-on to insulin

Merck & Co., Inc., which operates in many countries as Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), has received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency's (EMEA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) for JANUVIA® tablets and JANUMET® tablets recommending their use as add-on to insulin for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

It was nothing but an accounting trick that still forces Catholic (and other religious) institutions to provide medical insurance that guarantees free birth control, tubal ligation and morning-after abortifacients -; all of which violate church doctrine on the sanctity of life.
