Stentys commences enrollment in its comparative stent study

Medical device pioneer Stentys announced today that the first patient has been enrolled into the ‘APPOSITION II' clinical study—a randomized trial comparing the Stentys self-expanding stent with a conventional balloon-expandable stent in AMI patients. The primary endpoint of the ‘APPOSITION II' study is stent strut apposition at day three post-procedure via extremely high-resolution OCT (optical coherence tomography) imaging.

NY neurosurgeon performs deep brain surgeries with hand-held CO2 laser

Lee Eric Tessler, MD, a neurosurgeon specializing in the treatment of brain tumors, is among the first in metro New York to use a new advanced, hand-held CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser for surgeries on certain types of tumors that are buried deep within the base of the skull. The laser allows surgeons to remove these difficult-to-reach tumors in less time, with lower risk of complications, less anesthesia and a smaller possibility of damage to surrounding healthy brain and nerve tissue.

At least 1M children at risk of death in Sahel drought crisis; European Commission donates over $20M to UNICEF appeal

"At least one million children are at risk of dying of malnutrition in the central-western part of Africa's Sahel region due to a drought crisis, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said Wednesday, adding that more resources are urgently needed to help those in need," the U.N.
