HSS researchers use novel MRI technique to study Parsonage-Turner Syndrome

Researchers at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) have received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to use a novel MRI technique known as magnetic resonance neurography, or MRN, to study Parsonage-Turner Syndrome (PTS), a painful nerve disorder that leads to severe weakness.

A new study reveals that young adults who take oral antibiotics for acne may be more likely to get sore throats. The reason behind this is unclear say researchers. Study examines novel surgical procedure to combat peri-implantitis

Peri-implantitis is an irreversible inflammatory disease that is commonly caused by plaque and biofilm that accumulates on the exterior of a dental implant. It effects both the soft and hard tissues surrounding the implant, and without treatment, may result in excessive bone loss proximal to the implant and its eventual failure.

Emergency department (ED) use has been affected by insurance patterns over time and will likely be further affected by expansions of coverage from health care reform." Uninsured patients are often thought of as high and frequently inappropriate ED users, but insured patients, particularly those with Medicaid coverage, may have difficulties accessing primary care and may rely on EDs more frequently than uninsured patients, write Renee Y. Hsia, M.D., M.Sc., of the University of California, San Francisco, and colleagues.
