ADA supports IOM's proposal on school nutrition programs

The American Dietetic Association welcomes a report issued Wednesday, October 21, by the Institute of Medicine encouraging federal school meal programs to adopt standards that increase the nutrition content and limit the calories in meals served to schoolchildren.

Sepracor announces preliminary results from OMNARIS HFA Phase III study for seasonal allergic rhinitis

Sepracor Inc. announced today the preliminary results of a large-scale, 671-patient Phase III study of OMNARIS® (ciclesonide) HFA, an aerosol nasal formulation of ciclesonide, for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) in adult and adolescent patients. In this study, OMNARIS HFA met its primary efficacy endpoint by demonstrating a statistically significant reduction versus placebo in the reflective total nasal symptom score averaged over a two-week treatment period.

Immunovia and OHSU team up to validate, commercialize blood test for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer

Immunovia AB and the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University formed a collaboration to confirm, validate and commercialize a blood test for the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. The test called IMMray™ PanCan-d analyses a patient's immune system for early signs of disease. The collaboration will also enable researchers to explore biomarkers for a number of other cancer types.

Multiple study data on Agendia's MammaPrint, BluePrint, and ColoPrint assays to be presented at 2010 ASCO

Agendia, a world leader in molecular cancer diagnostics, today announced that researchers from Agendia and leading academic centers in the U.S. and Europe will present data from multiple studies concerning Agendia's assays MammaPrint(R), BluePrint(TM), and ColoPrint(TM) at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, June 4 - 8, 2010, at McCormick Place in Chicago. MammaPrint, the company's lead product, is the only FDA-cleared breast cancer recurrence test.

Study suggests superiority of CT scans over X-Rays in detecting abnormalities in patients with the H1N1 virus

Computed tomography (CT) scans are better than standard radiography (X-rays) in showing the extent of disease in patients with the H1N1 virus, according to a study to be published online Oct. 21, 2009, in the American Journal of Roentgenology. The study will be published in the December issue of the AJR.
