Decision Resources, one of the world's leading research and advisory firms for pharmaceutical and healthcare issues, finds that some surveyed physicians indicate that they will decrease their overall prescribing of long-acting beta2 agonists (LABA)/inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) combination therapies over the next 12 months for the treatment of asthma in response to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's new safety controls for LABA-containing medications.
ZIOPHARM Oncology, Inc., announced today that the first patient has been dosed in a Phase I, single arm, dose escalation study at the Indiana University Cancer Center of intravenous (IV) palifosfamide (ZIO-201) in combination with etoposide (VP-16) and cisplatin/carboplatin (platinum) in the treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and other cancers.
The research team, based at the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West in collaboration with the West of England Academic Health Science Network, studied the impact of NEWS scores collected for more than 13,000 urgent GP referrals to hospital.
Of the dozen people who were exposed to a horse infected with the Hendra virus, 11 have been cleared of the infection by repeated tests on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. These 12 people had first come into contact with the infected horse at Tewantin in May and have since then been subjected to testing to rule out infection with the deadly virus. It is expected that the 12th person will also be cleared soon. Quarantine restrictions were also lifted last month.
