Potent monoclonal antibody shows promise against emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern

In a new study currently available on the bioRxiv* preprint server, a group of US-based researchers developed a panel of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 that can block viral attachment to cells – and pinpointed a specific one that can potently neutralize all tested variants of concern.

Increase in mammographic density associated with increase of breast cancer in EPT study participants

An increase in breast density appears to be the culprit behind an increase of breast cancer found in women participating in the estrogen and progestin therapy study, a part of the Women's Health Initiative (WHI). That is the finding of a new WHI analysis led by Celia Byrne, PhD, assistant professor at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and presented during the AACR 101st Annual Meeting 2010 in Washington, DC.

Isotechnika Labs amends Isodiagnostika sales agreement with Paladin Labs

Isotechnika Pharma Inc. today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Isotechnika Labs, has amended its agreement with Paladin Labs Inc. concerning its remaining stake in the revenue stream from the Isodiagnostika business sold to Paladin on June 18, 2009. Under the agreement, Isotechnika Labs was entitled to receive a revenue stream equivalent to 88 percent of the net profits of Isodiagnostika through to June 18 2016.

Presenilin-1 gene plays central role in development of neuronal histamine system

Researchers at University of Helsinki, Finland, have shown in a study conducted on zebrafish, that the presenilin-1 (psen1) gene associated with Alzheimer's disease functions as a central regulator for the development of the histamine system. Histamine system is also altered in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
