Elotuzumab shows promise in treating multiple myeloma: Study

A drug designed to target cancerous plasma cells appears promising in treating multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. A multi-center study looked at the drug elotuzumab, an antibody which is designed to target CS1, a protein on the surface of malignant plasma cells. The antibody has the potential to attach to malignant plasma cells and eliminates them by an immune mechanism.

RNs of North Adams Regional Hospital approve two-year contract

The Registered Nurses of North Adams Regional Hospital today ratified a two-year contract. A tentative agreement was reached on September 2, 2010 that maintains important patient care protections in the nurses' contract, while also preserving important rights and benefits the hospital wanted to take away from the nurses. The agreement averted a strike, ending nearly nine months of contentious negotiations.

Testosterone in the womb linked to autism

The researchers believe the results reinforce findings from tests on animals and also support the hypothesis that higher levels of testosterone may contribute to autism.

As a potential approach to treating liver fibrosis, University of California San Diego School of Medicine researchers and their collaborators are looking for ways to stop liver cells from producing collagen.
