Neuronal death and processing of Tau protein in Alzheimer's Disease (AD)

In a research report recently published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, published by IOS Press, a research group from the International School for Advanced Studies (ISAS\SISSA) in Trieste (Luisa Fasulo, Gabriele Ugolini e Antonino Cattaneo) showed that a processed form of tau protein induces neuronal death by apoptosis (programmed cell death) when expressed in cultured rat hippocampal neurons.

Common test for autism found wanting

A new study published in the March 2020 issue of the journal Experimental Results reports that based on data from over 6,500 subjects, the commonly used AQ10 test is not relevant in diagnosing autism. That means a re-examination of the approach used at present to pick up this condition in the population at large is needed. It also means there is a question mark on the validity of research based on this test.

American Cancer Society attacks electronic cigarettes while number of users increase

The American Cancer Society continues to attack electronic cigarettes and falsely label them as dangerous and ineffective, while the number of people using the products is increasing by 20,000 to 30,000 a week. Despite the ACS's claims, e cigarette reviews by consumers are still flooding in all over the Internet that smokers who are switching to e cigarettes and e liquid are breathing, tasting, and sleeping better than they ever did while smoking traditional cigarettes.

Pew Home Visiting Campaign director comments on maternal and infant home visiting provisions

John Schlitt, director of the Pew Home Visiting Campaign, a project of the Pew Center on the States, issued the following statement today, commenting on maternal and infant home visiting provisions included in Health Care Reform legislation as passed by the 111th United States Congress. The bill establishes a $1.5 billion federal grant program for evidence-based state home visitation for new and expectant families.
