Study shows regadenoson is safe and effective for chronic lung disease

Patients at risk of coronary disease who have reactive airways may breathe easier thanks to new data released today at the 15th Annual Scientific Session of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. A new study shows that regadenoson may be safely tolerated by patients with chronic lung disease, providing an alternative to adenosine, which is known to induce brochoconstriction in some patients.

Asuragen, Novartis to develop ARQ BCR-ABL1 RNA IS Calibrators, laboratory software reporting tools

Asuragen, Inc. announced today that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Novartis to develop worldwide Armored RNA Quant BCR-ABL1 RNA International Scale Calibrators and laboratory software reporting tools, intended to aid laboratories with standardization of BCR-ABL1 RT-qPCR testing to the International Scale. As part of this agreement, Asuragen will develop and, if successful, distribute the ARQ BCR-ABL1 IS RNA Calibrators and software reporting tools to laboratories globally directly or through its distributors.

BTA Charitable Foundation to gift $1 million to Courage Centre at GRH

In a landmark giving announcement for the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation (GRHF), the Building Trades of Alberta (BTA) Charitable Foundation announced today that they will give $1 million to the Courage Centre at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (GRH). The Charitable Foundation is the beneficiary of the philanthropic efforts of the Building Trades of Alberta's 16 affiliated unions and 22 locals with a combined membership of over 60,000 unionized skilled trades people.

Taiwan's HBV immunization program for newborns lowers chronic HBV carriers, incidence of HCC

"Hepatitis B virus infection causes infant fulminant hepatitis, and chronic HBV infection may progress to chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. Taiwan launched a nationwide HBV immunization program for newborns in July 1984, which has successfully lowered the prevalence of chronic HBV carriers, incidence of HCC, and mortality of IFH in vaccinated birth cohorts. The mortality of CLD before and after HBV immunization has never been examined," write Chun-Ju Chiang, Ph.D., of National Taiwan University, Taipei, and colleagues.
