New chemoprevention therapy for skin cancer

Study finds increased rates of autism among the children of teen moms

The largest-ever multinational study of parental age and autism risk, funded by Autism Speaks, found increased autism rates among the children of teen moms and among children whose parents have relatively large gaps between their ages. The study also confirmed that older parents are at higher risk of having children with autism. The analysis included more than 5.7 million children in five countries.

Nicotine exposure of adolescent e-cigarette users found to be as much as cigarette smokers

A new study that looked at nicotine exposure of adolescent e-cigarette users, specifically those who use the 'pod' vaping devices (ie, Juul), found that levels of urinary cotinine, a byproduct of nicotine metabolism, were even higher than what has been reported among adolescent cigarette smokers.

CTC is not cost effective compared with colonoscopy: Study

A UNC physician authored an editorial in the July 27 online issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) commenting on results of an analysis of the cost effectiveness of colonoscopy versus computed tomographic colonography (CTC).The cost effectiveness analysis concluded that CTC or virtual colonoscopy is not cost effective compared with colonoscopy if reimbursed at the same rate as colonoscopy
