We must demonstrate 'Olympian leadership' to improve global nutrition

Drug metformin and lifestyle changes can help treat weight gain induced by antipsychotic drugs

Lifestyle intervention and the drug metformin are both effective against antipsychotic-induced weight gain, and treatment is most effective when the two therapies are combined, according to a study in the January 9/16 issue of JAMA.

FDA approves Pfizer's Prefilled Dual-Chamber Syringe for XYNTHA administration in hemophilia A patients

Pfizer Inc. announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted approval of the use of a Prefilled Dual-Chamber Syringe for administration of XYNTHA® Antihemophilic Factor (Recombinant) Plasma/Albumin-Free to hemophilia A patients. XYNTHA is a recombinant factor VIII product indicated for both the control and prevention of bleeding episodes in patients with hemophilia A (congenital factor VIII deficiency or classic hemophilia) and for surgical prophylaxis in patients with hemophilia A.

Brain growth and development in very premature or low-weight infants

Brain development in infants who are born very prematurely is still incomplete. Factors that cause premature birth may have an impact on the development of the premature infant's brain both during pregnancy and later on after birth. A project conducted as part of the Academy of Finland Research Programme on Neuroscience (NEURO) is concerned to study brain growth and development invery premature or low-weight infants.
