C-CCNE receives grant to improve cancer treatment using nanotechnology

The National Cancer Institute has awarded a five-year, $13.6 million grant to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Carolina Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (C-CCNE) based at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, for research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer through applying/using advances in nanotechnology.

EMD Serono, Brigham and Women's Hospital collaborate in MS research

EMD Serono, Inc., an affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, today announced a strategic collaboration with Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, to advance basic and clinical research in multiple sclerosis (MS), with the goal of generating new and innovative discoveries that advance treatment for people living with this condition. The multi-faceted agreement will run for up to 5 years, with the potential to renew the alliance thereafter. Both parties decided not to disclose financial details.

Genentech to present positive data from vismodegib Phase II trial on advanced BCC at EADO 2011

Curis, Inc., a drug development company seeking to develop next generation targeted small molecule drug candidates for cancer treatment, today announced that positive data are being presented by its collaborator Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, from a pivotal Phase II clinical trial conducted by Roche and Genentech of vismodegib in patients with advanced basal cell carcinoma, an often life-threatening form of skin cancer that can have disfiguring and debilitating effects.
