Considered a neurological, sleep, or movement disorder, RLS affects up to 1 in 10 people in the U.S. For those coping with a more severe form of RLS, countless sleepless nights-during which they may toss and turn constantly, or get up and pace the floor-can shatter quality of life.
Kidney disease patients with poor quality of life are at increased risk of experiencing progression of their disease and of developing heart problems, according to a study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. The findings suggest that quality of life measurements may have important prognostic value in these individuals.
