PecFent receives Positive Opinion from CHMP for treatment of BTCP

Archimedes Pharma, a leading specialty pharma company, today announced that its lead product, PecFent, has received a Positive Opinion from the Committee for Human Medicinal Products, of the European Medicines Agency. The CHMP is recommending PecFent, an innovative fentanyl nasal spray, be authorised for marketing in European Union countries for the treatment of breakthrough cancer pain - sudden, unpredictable episodes of intense pain that occur despite background pain medication.

Rutgers selected to speed up development of biomedical health technologies

Genetic differences play a role in prostate cancer disparities

Genetic differences in prostate cells seem to be a root cause of the prostate cancer disparities between African-American men and white men, according to findings presented at the Fourth AACR Conference on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities, held here Sept. 18-21, 2011.

Genes influence chronic kidney disease risk: Research

A team of researchers from the United States and Europe has identified more than a dozen genes that may play a role in the etiology of common forms of kidney disease. The team, known as the CKDGen Consortium, examined common variations in DNA sequences in more than 65,000 individuals of European descent. Common variations in several genes were found to be more frequent among people with poor kidney function or chronic kidney disease than in those with normal kidney function.

Instead of dismissing grumblings about being tired or exhausted, people should take these complaints seriously before they lead to a worsened health state or even death, says a University of Alberta researcher investigating fatigue.
