New study finds increased prevalence of marijuana use disorders in U.S.

The percentage of Americans who reported using marijuana in the past year more than doubled between 2001-2002 and 2012-2013, and the increase in marijuana use disorders during that time was nearly as large, according to a new study in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

Raptor Pharmaceutical presents positive results from Phase 2a trial of DR cysteamine bitartrate for NASH

Raptor Pharmaceutical Corp., announced positive Phase 2a clinical trial results from its pilot study of delayed-release cysteamine bitartrate in 11 adolescent patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, a progressive form of liver disease believed to affect 5% to 11% of the U.S. population. The results were presented at the Digestive Disease Week 2010 conference in New Orleans, LA on May 2, 2010.

UK IPO rejects revocation action by Biogene against Enigma's patents

Enigma Diagnostics Limited, the decentralised and point-of-care molecular diagnostics company, announced that the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has rejected a revocation action brought by Biogene against three patents licensed exclusively to Enigma by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), part of the UK Ministry of Defence.

1 in 6 public health workers would not report to work during a pandemic flu emergency

The findings are a significant improvement over a 2005 study conducted by the same research team, in which more than 40 percent of public health employees said they were unlikely to report to work during a pandemic emergency. The new study suggests ways for improving the response of the public health workforce. The results are published in the July 24 edition of the journal PLoS ONE.
