No evidence sometimes needed to adopt new treatments; to give them up is another story

During the past decade, the New England Journal of Medicine twice published studies showing that in comparisons arthroscopic surgery and nothing were equally effective treatments for knee pain, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Lengthy treatment with low-dose 6-mercaptopurine inhibits resistant triple-negative breast cancer cells

The cover for issue 7 of Oncotarget features Figure 5, "SUM149-MA cells surviving a 6-MP treatment are sensitive to chemotherapeutic drugs," published in "Inhibition of resistant triple-negative breast cancer cells with low-dose 6-mercaptopurine and 5-azacitidine" by Singh, et al. which reported that the authors have reported that a lengthy treatment with low-dose 6-mercaptopurine, a clinically useful anti-inflammatory drug, inhibits such resistant cells.

It is possible to reduce the risk of HIV infection with a vaccine: AVAC

"Today marks an historic milestone in the search for an AIDS vaccine; we now have evidence that it is possible to reduce the risk of HIV infection with a vaccine," said AVAC executive director Mitchell Warren, reacting to the results of the first AIDS vaccine trial to ever show efficacy at preventing HIV. "It will take time and resources to fully analyze, understand and validate the data, but there is little doubt that this finding will energize and redirect the AIDS vaccine field as all of us begin the hard work to translate this landmark result into true public health benefit."

CytRx reaches agreement with FDA for aldoxorubicin Phase 3 trial for treatment of soft tissue sarcomas

CytRx Corporation, a biopharmaceutical research and development company specializing in oncology, announced today that it has reached an agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under a special protocol assessment for a global pivotal Phase 3 trial with aldoxorubicin as a treatment for patients with soft tissue sarcomas who have relapsed or were refractory following prior treatment with chemotherapy.
