Flaw in bone's material leads to disease

Rochester Medical Corporation (Nasdaq: ROCM) today announced the introduction of its Strata brands of Foley catheters. This new Foley product line features proprietary comfort layered technology. The company's StrataSI(TM) catheter is all-silicone, while the StrataNF(TM) version includes a nitrofurazone anti-infective matrix within the silicone.

Research findings hold promise for new therapies using proliferating cells to treat patients with FECD

Researchers from Massachusetts Eye and Ear have, for the first time, identified rapidly proliferating cells (known as "neural crest-derived progenitor cells") in the corneal endothelium of specimens from normal corneas and from corneas with Fuchs' Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy (FECD), a condition in which the cells responsible for keeping the cornea clear die prematurely — often leading to blindness.

Study assesses therapeutic benefits of new oral immunotherapy for children allergic to wheat

The study carried out by researchers from the Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics along with the Allergy Department of the Hospital Infantil Universitario Niño Jesús of Madrid have shown that, most of the children that received this new oral immunotherapy treatment were able to eat 100 grams of wheat bread without side effects. This result has overcome the risk of accidental ingestion by patients with this allergy. This research could be the basis for large clinical trials with more patients with the aim of assessing the therapeutic benefit of this new approach.
