Self-reported mental health disability more prevalent among U.S. adults

The prevalence of self-reported mental health disabilities increased in the U.S. among non-elderly adults during the last decade, according to a study by Ramin Mojtabai, MD, PhD, of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Phase 1 clinical trial of XMT-1107 initiated in patients with refractory advanced solid tumors

Mersana Therapeutics, a platform-based cancer therapeutics company, today announced that it has initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial to study the safety and pharmacokinetics of XMT-1107 in patients with refractory advanced solid tumors. XMT-1107 is a novel anti-angiogenic fumagillin analog that employs Mersana's Fleximer platform. Mersana's XMT-1001, a conjugate of Fleximer and camptothecin, is currently completing a Phase 1 study.

Advanced Cell Technology eliminates $3 million in debt, strengthens balance sheet

Advanced Cell Technology, Inc. announced today that it has strengthened its balance sheet through the elimination of approximately $3 million in debt over the past several weeks. The conversion of senior and subordinated debentures to equity has reduced the Company's outstanding convertible debentures to approximately $890,000. Since September 2009, Advanced Cell has eliminated approximately $33 million in indebtedness.

Study identifies small molecule inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 which block key cellular kinases

Antiviral drug screen of kinase inhibitors, which was done by researchers from the University of California and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, identified cellular signaling pathways critical for SARS-CoV-2 replication and revealed an important mechanism of host-pathogen interaction vital for further drug research. Their results are available on the bioRxiv* preprint server.

Soluble ACE2 level correlates with COVID-19 outcomes

Researchers at the Aarhus University, Denmark, found that high baseline levels of ACE2 in plasma from COVID-19 patients are tied to a worse outcome in hospitalized patients. The study, which appeared on the pre-print server medRxiv, shows that measuring ACE2 levels in serum can help determine patients at a higher risk of developing severe illness from SARS-CoV-2 infection.
