Brain stimulation reduces depression symptoms, shows study

EPA continues to validate ToxCast screening tool by testing more than 100 drugs

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will continue validating its ToxCast screening tool by screening more than 100 drugs provided by Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-Aventis, and Merck. These drugs never entered the marketplace because they demonstrated different types and levels of toxicity when the pharmaceutical companies conducted the early stage clinical trials required by the Food and Drug Administration as part of the drug development process.

Arrow International has announced a worldwide voluntary recall of its 5800 Series IABs with Super Arrow-Flex Sheath Introducer. This recall is being conducted because of an increase of "stuck in sheath" reports involving the use of the Super Arrow-Flex Sheath with 5800 Series IAB products. When the IAB becomes stuck in sheath, the user is unable to move the IAB catheter forward or backward, potentially causing a delay in critical therapy.

Study finds minimal differences in intensity of hospice services across different settings

A new study from the Indiana University Center for Aging Research and the Regenstrief Institute has found only minimal differences in the intensity of hospice services provided in nursing homes as compared to hospice services provided to patients in assisted living facilities or their homes. However the mix of services did vary by site type.
