Artificial disc offers new option for back pain

FDA undecided on safety guidelines for hydroquinone use

According to Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, the US market for physician-dispensed cosmeceutical pigment control products will experience considerable growth in sales over the next five years. MRG's US Markets for Physician-Dispensed Cosmeceuticals 2009 report finds, however, that product safety issues involving hydroquinone, the active ingredient in many pigment control products, have led the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to second guess the use of the compound in such products.

Sarah Cannon Research Institute opens enrollment in Phase I clinical study with MORAb-066

Morphotek, Inc., a subsidiary of Eisai Inc., announced today that the Sarah Cannon Research Institute in Nashville, Tennessee has opened enrollment in a Phase I clinical study with MORAb-066 in patients with advanced or metastatic breast, pancreatic, colorectal or non-small cell lung cancer (adenocarcinoma) malignancies.

A federal appeals court on Tuesday ordered a major health system in northwest Ohio to unwind its merger with a local hospital on antitrust grounds. The unanimous decision by a three-judge panel of the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati comes amid growing concerns about hospital mergers and their effect on prices against the backdrop of America's health care upheaval (Gershman, 4/22).
