Genzyme Corp. announced today that ongoing discussions with Sanofi-Aventis have progressed to the point where Genzyme's board has authorized the company to enter into a confidentiality agreement with Sanofi-Aventis in order to allow Sanofi to conduct due diligence. Discussions between Genzyme's advisors and Sanofi's advisors and between Genzyme and Sanofi representatives are continuing.
Cervical and lung cancer are more common in poor people while rates of breast cancer and melanoma are higher in the wealthy. A detailed analysis of the incidence of these four different kinds of cancer, carried out on more than 300,000 English cancer patients and published today in the open access journal BMC Cancer, describes the effects of socioeconomic group, region and age.
Breast augmentations are the most common form of plastic surgery nationwide, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Loyola University Health System plastic surgeons are seeing similar trends in their practice. The number of women who are getting breast implants also is up from last year. In 2011, 307,180 women nationwide underwent a breast augmentation procedure while 296, 203 women had the same surgery in 2010.
Funding worth nearly half a million pounds will unite academics at the University of Southampton with drug discovery experts at the medical research charity MRC Technology, to target the immune system in the hunt for new treatments for Alzheimer's disease.
