The Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) and the Pittcon Organizing Committee are pleased to announce that Jane Chan was named president for Pittcon 2020. Jane has been a member of the SSP and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) since 1980, and has served and been chair on numerous committees in these two societies.
Scientists funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health, have identified a cellular receptor for rhinovirus C, a cold-causing virus that is strongly associated with severe asthma attacks.
Intellectual disabilities are often caused by a mutation that damages a gene, preventing the associated protein from functioning properly.
Kadmon Pharmaceuticals LLC, and Nano Terra, Inc., today announced that they have entered into an agreement under which Kadmon has been granted a perpetual, worldwide exclusive license to three novel, clinical-stage product candidates owned by Nano Terra as well as rights to Nano Terra's drug discovery platform, Pharmacomerâ„¢ Technology. The product candidates and technology platform will be transferred to a newly formed joint venture, NT Life Sciences ("NT Life"), co-owned by Kadmon and Nano Terra, which will act as the licensor and recipient of any licensing or royalty fees subject to the agreement. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The 20-week bans are the latest front in the abortion wars that have raged ever since the Supreme Court's decision 40 years ago in Roe v. Wade. In addition to the state bans, the U.S. House passed a 20-week limit in June, using the atrocities by Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell as a rallying cry. Preventing murders like the ones Gosnell committed is certainly an urgent goal. But 20-week bans won't do it and could, in fact, create more tragedies than they prevent (6/30).
