A new study designed to look at how well patients with high blood pressure and dyslipidemia (high cholesterol levels) coped with their medication, has discovered that within six months many patients fail to take blood pressure or cholesterol medication properly.
Supporters of controversial legislation to give state regulators power to approve, deny or modify changes in health insurance rates have returned from their summer recess to find added opposition as they push for its passage before the session wraps up. Gov. Jerry Brown's finance officials came out against Assembly Bill 52 at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing this week, raising concerns about the costs of the rate-regulation proposal.
Currently, there are an estimated 46 million people worldwide living with dementia. There is currently no cure, and no way to prevent the onset of dementia. The Wayback Project was created by a group of friends and former colleagues who wanted to create virtual reality films that allow patients to go 'back in time'.
The NREF has reached agreements with Medtronic, Lanx and Zimmer Spine to provide funding to the NREF in support of the Foundation's post-residency clinical fellowship grant program. The NREF is pleased to report that it has renewed its agreements with Codman & Shurtleff, Inc. and DePuy Spine, Inc., who supported the inaugural year of the fellowship program in 2010.
