Fewer than one in ten people think radiotherapy is a modern cancer treatment according to the results of a survey published Friday.
A ten-minute memory test that gives early warning of Alzheimer's in people as young as 50 is being piloted in GP surgeries. Using a touch-screen computer or an iPad, it can distinguish between normal forgetfulness and the more dangerous memory lapses that signal dementia in its earliest stages. If trials are successful, it could be in widespread use in under a year. The developer, Cambridge Cognition, said the mobile electronic test will allow GPs to access patients presenting memory problems more quickly, simply and accurately than with tradition paper-based tests.
A recent study reported in the May issue of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine demonstrates that Ga-68 DOTATATE PET/CT scans are superior to In-111 pentetreotide scans, the current imaging standard in the United States for detecting neuroendocrine tumors, and could significantly impact treatment management.
According to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee's (The Oncology Drugs Advisory Committee, or ODAC) recommendation this Tuesday, the marketing approval of the popular breast cancer drug, Avastin or Bevacizumab should be withdrawn.
Prostate elasticity is an independent risk factor for urinary voiding symptoms, although not for lower urinary tract symptoms in general or storage symptoms, clinical research indicates.
