The Journal of Public Health Management and Practice today announced it is publishing a special issue addressing the increasing impact of the economic recession on public health agencies.
Eric Goosby, head of PEPFAR, on Wednesday reemphasized the U.S. commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS globally, the Associated Press reports. Despite concerns by international aid groups that the current economic climate might force HIV/AIDS funding to be scaled back, "Goosby said President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton have assured him his program remains among 'the highest priorities,'" the news service writes.
Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Western Regional Medical Center in Goodyear, Arizona, has begun Phase II of another arm of its multi-arm clinical trial that combines immunotherapy with chemotherapy.
World Heart Corporation, a developer of mechanical circulatory systems, announced today that it has received unconditional approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") for the bridge-to-transplant ("BTT") study of the Levacor Ventricular Assist Device ("VAD"). Study enrollment will encompass 160 subjects, a reduction from the approximately 200 subjects of the original statistical plan. As previously announced, the BTT study will begin initially at ten clinical sites.
New guidelines for the management of non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTE-ACS) were released by the European Society of Cardiology in June 2007 replacing previous guidelines of 2002.
