A CU School of Medicine researcher who suffers from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and had to "fix it" before she could go to work one day was using a maneuver to treat herself that only made her sicker. "So I sat down and thought about it and figured out an alternate way to do it. Then I fixed myself and went in to work" and discovered a new treatment for this type of vertigo.
"Indoor spraying with the insecticide bendiocarb has dramatically decreased malaria transmission in many parts of Benin, new evidence that insecticides remain a potent weapon for fighting malaria in Africa despite the rapid rise of resistance to an entire class of mosquito-killing compounds," researchers from Benin's Entomologic Research Center in Cotonou report in a study published Wednesday in the October edition of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (AJTMH), according to an AJTMH press release.
Researchers at Kobe University's Graduate School of Medicine have developed the world's first congenital pituitary hypoplasia model using patient-derived iPS cells.
The new Imaging Center for Women will open for patients on July 19 at 10 a.m., just after a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The three-story angular glass and brick building on Mary Washington Healthcare's campus is located between the community hospital and Cowan Boulevard. Staff will move from the current facility in the Tompkins Martin Building July 15 and 16 in preparation for the opening.
