GE is helping to transform the delivery of patient care with Venue™ 40, a miniaturized ultrasound system with advanced touch-screen technology, launched by GE Healthcare, a business unit of General Electric Company. Venue 40 is portable, allowing physicians to quickly perform rapid diagnostics and needle-guided procedures right at a patient's bedside, providing real-time results.
A study led by Louise Kuhn, PhD, professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, evaluated whether HIV-infected children in South Africa who had achieved viral suppression with one antiretroviral treatment could transition to efavirenz-based therapy, the recommended drug for children older than 3 years, without risk of viral failure.
Syntaxin, a biotechnology company developing novel biopharmaceuticals to control cell secretion, today announces its partner Allergan, Inc has initiated two Phase II trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of its re-targeted endopeptidase drug candidate AGN-214868. The Phase II trials will be focused on patients with post herpetic neuralgia (PHN) and overactive bladder.
Researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Group Health Research Institute and the University of Washington schools of Public Health and Pharmacy have been selected to lead four projects backed by approximately $16 million in federal stimulus funding for comparative-effectiveness research in cancer.
