"With Congress just days away from an expected vote, Democrats still hadn't settled on final language of the bill and until they do the Congressional Budget Office can't release an estimate for how much the complete package would cost." House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D., Md.) said yesterday that "he hoped Democratic leaders would be able to lock down final details soon.
H. Julia Hannay, the John and Rebecca Moores Professor of Psychology at the University of Houston (UH), received the Lifetime Distinguished Career Award from the International Neuropsychological Society (INS) at its 41st annual meeting in Waikoloa, Hawaii. The award recognizes her contributions to the field of neuropsychology.
Politico: "President Barack Obama will meet Sunday with Senate Democrats on Capitol Hill, as a group of moderate and liberal senators weighed a new public option compromise in hopes of striking a deal by early in the week.
At least 50 research projects so far, supported by more than $10 million in stimulus grants from the National Institutes of Health, are expected to lead to new discoveries at Emory University that will improve medical treatment, create new jobs, and provide additional educational opportunities for students. Emory has received half of all the NIH ARRA grants awarded to Georgia academic institutions thus far.
In collaboration with Eira Hospital in Helsinki, Global Health Partner (STO:GHP) has started up obesity treatment operations and the first bariatric surgery procedure has now been performed. Finland has the highest obesity prevalence in the Nordic countries. However, the number of bariatric surgery procedures has so far been very low. "We see Finland as a very exciting market with great potential and are happy to be doing this in collaboration with the well-reputed Eira Hospital," says Per Båtelson, Global Health Partner's CEO.
