Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, one of the top academic medical centers in the United States, has awarded a five-year, $25 million contract for medical equipment and health IT consulting services to Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. With the addition of Siemens medical imaging equipment and software, Rush will become one of a select group of medical centers in the country incorporating the concept of an interventional platform within its facility.
"Health workers in Myanmar are confident that efforts to narrow the country's huge gap between access to, and need for, life-saving medicines to treat HIV/AIDS are back on track after the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria invited the country to apply for additional funding," IRIN reports.
Allos Therapeutics, Inc. today announced updated data from its ongoing dose finding Phase 1 study of FOLOTYN (pralatrexate injection) in patients with relapsed or refractory cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, a group of often slow-growing non-Hodgkins lymphomas that primarily manifest in the skin. These data were presented during a poster presentation at the European Hematology Association meeting being held June 10-13, 2010 in Barcelona, Spain.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is supporting the development of new wireless hearing devices and research into more effective acoustic implants by global leader William Demant Holding A/S through a EUR 110 million loan.
The University College London researchers transplanted immature vision cells directly into the mouse retina. They noted that within weeks the cells began to integrate into the retina and the researchers, led by Prof Robin Ali in the university's Institute of Ophthalmology, were able to show that vision began to return to the mice.
