Colonoscopic FMT effective in treating IBD, C.difficile-associated diarrhea

Growing evidence for the effectiveness of fecal microbiota transplants as a treatment for patients with recurrent bouts of Clostridium difficile (C.difficile) associated diarrhea is presented in three studies - including a long-term follow-up of colonoscopic fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) for recurrent C. difficile Infection that included 77 patients from five different states- unveiled today at the American College of Gastroenterology's (ACG) 76th Annual Scientific meeting in Washington, DC.

Study demonstrates that both gauze and foam interfaces provide comparable healing rates in NPWT systems

The Advanced Wound Management Division of Smith & Nephew, Inc., a subsidiary of Smith & Nephew Plc, highlighted the results of a multi-center study which demonstrates that gauze-based Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) achieves many of the common treatment goals defined for foam-based NPWT systems. These goals include a reduction in wound dimension, exudate, and improvement in granulation tissue.

Research findings could help define new vaccination applications

New research from the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota, and the University of Minnesota Center for Immunology has identified key proteins that influence immune response strategies, a finding that could influence new vaccination approaches.

Stentys' self-expanding and drug-eluting stents demonstrate promising results in 'OPEN-I' clinical study

Medical device pioneer Stentys announced today that the complete ‘OPEN-I' clinical study was presented by Stefan Verheye, M.D., Ph.D., at the Joint Interventional Meeting ("JIM") 2010 in Rome, demonstrating superior results in 60 patients (27 Stentys drug-eluting stents and 33 Stentys bare-metal stents) who were followed–up angiographically after six months.
