"Leaders of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) nations met in Durban, South Africa, last week (March 26-27), for their fifth annual summit, and made an intriguing decision: to establish between them a new development bank," a Lancet editorial states.
According to a new study Australia's off-road motorbike riders need to wear helmets more often. Research has shown that off-road crashes resulting in death or serious injury was the only rising category among Victoria's motorcycle community from 2001 to 2008. The results showed that the death toll from all motorcycle crashes plateaued over the period and this masked an almost doubling of the death and injuries which occurred off-road.
Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) is pleased to announce it will begin offering Chiropractor's Malpractice Insurance in several states. Chiropractors may now obtain policies in Alabama, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota and Utah. Filing approval is anticipated for Mississippi, Ohio and Texas within the next 60 days with additional states to follow in 2010.
A small but significant percentage of children develop acute kidney injury after taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, show study findings published in the Journal of Pediatrics.
While highly potent embryonic stem cells are often the subject of ethical and safety controversy, adult-derived stem cells have other problems. As we age, our stem cells are less pliant and less able to transform into the stem cells that science needs to find breakthrough treatments for disease.
