Patients with existing chronic pain syndromes experience a significant increase in pain when they are exposed to media coverage of terrorist missile attacks, researchers say.
UBM International Media, a wholly owned subsidiary of United Business Media plc (LSE: UBM) and AIM, the international association and recognized authority on bar code, RFID, and enterprise mobile computing, today announced that the FDA's Jay Crowley, senior advisor for patient safety, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, will deliver the keynote address for the Track & Trace Virtual Trade Show on opening day, December 2nd in the online presentation theater.
"In one of the most significant victories for public health policy, the Australian High Court upheld the Tobacco Plain Packaging Act, which effectively removes the last form of advertising available to the tobacco industry in the country - logos on cigarette packs," Cynthia Lewis, a senior program officer for the tobacco initiative at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, writes in the foundation's "Impatient Optimists" blog.
Terrorist attacks injure far more people than they kill, leaving victims with lost limbs, hearing loss, respiratory disease, depression and other issues. But little research has measured the impact of that damage beyond the number of people who are hurt.
Following the discovery that a London hospital health worker has been found to have tuberculosis (TB), more than 200 babies are to be tested for the disease.
