Garland Science is proud to announce the publication of the long-awaited Second Edition of Human Evolutionary Genetics by Jobling, Hollux, Hurles, Kivisild, and Tyler-Smith.
A new study links fetal exposure to a common chemical pollutant, bisphenol A (BPA), to defects of a testicular hormone in newborn boys with undescended testicles. The results, which were presented Monday at The Endocrine Society's 95th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, suggest yet another potential harmful effect of BPA, which is widely used in many plastics, liners of food cans and dental sealants.
A new mouse study suggests that a brain system that controls the sleep/wake cycle might also play a role in regulating appetite and metabolism. Mice with a mutation in a gene called "Clock," which helps drive circadian rhythm, ate significantly more and gained more weight.
Investigators reported the long-term follow-up of the largest randomized comparison between the CYPHER® Sirolimus-eluting Coronary Stent and Medtronic's Endeavor® Stent highlighting significant and sustained clinical differences. These important findings were presented at the American College of Cardiology annual meeting, (ACC 2010) in Atlanta and published on-line in the prestigious journal The Lancet.
A drug developed at the University of Rochester Medical Center protected mice from one of the many ills of our cheeseburger and milkshake-laden Western diet - non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
