If your body releases cortisol with fixed regularity then you can cope with stress better, says NWO-funded researcher Angela Sarabdjitsingh. She investigated the rhythm of corticosterone production in rats. This rat hormone is comparable to the human stress hormone cortisol. Rats deal considerably less well with stress if the pattern of corticosterone release changes. An irregular release pattern is a characteristic of chronic stress and stress-related diseases. It might therefore be possible to treat these by restoring the rhythm.

Neuropeptide receptors could provide treatment target for chemoresistant SCLC

The discovery of a novel broad spectrum neuropeptide antagonist, peptide–1, which is related to the substance P analogue SP-G, could help develop treatments targeted at chemoresistant small-cell lung cancer, indicate study results.

Study highlights importance of public health efforts to reduce maternal obesity

In a study published in Pediatric Obesity, a child's high and increasing body mass index between ages two and six years was strongly associated with pre-pregnancy obesity and overweight in the child's mother; modestly associated with maternal type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes that required medication, and excessive weight gain during pregnancy; and slightly associated with breastfeeding for six months or less.
