That's the conclusion of a research team led by investigators at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore and the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced it plans to move CB-183,315, being studied for the treatment of a severe and sometimes life-threatening diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile known as C. difficile-associated diarrhea, or CDAD, into late-stage trials.
Kamada Ltd., a plasma-derived protein therapeutics company focused on orphan indications, will announce results from its Phase 2/3 clinical trial of its proprietary inhaled alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) to treat alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) in Europe and Canada on Friday, May 16, 2014, at approximately 7:30 a.m. Eastern time.
Warren Bickel, an internationally recognized addiction expert at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, recently received a $3.2-million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse for research on improving self-control in smokers seeking to quit cigarettes. The grant will provide Bickel's team with $573,000 to $716,000 a year over five years to develop innovative new ways to enhance the smokers' ability to abstain from acting on their nicotine cravings.
