Avedro, Inc. today announced it has signed a definitive agreement with Swiss-based Peschke Meditrade GmbH to acquire the rights to its Phase III studies of Corneal Collagen Crosslinking for the treatment of progressive keratoconus and post LASIK ectasia. The two randomized, controlled, multi-site clinical trials are designed to assess the safety and efficacy of riboflavin/ultraviolet-A light for halting the progression of these degenerative disorders and the accompanying decline in patient's visual acuity.
DSG Inc., an industry leader in clinical trial data collection and management, today announced that Cipher Pharmaceuticals (TSX:DND) is using electronic data capture (EDC) software and data management services from DSG. Cipher is using DSG's eCaseLink™ for its Phase 3 dermatology study on its new compound for the treatment of severe acne.
A study published in the September 2014 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry found that children and adolescents diagnosed with a psychiatric diagnosis had an increased risk of developing diabetes if they were exposed to antipsychotics.
A new study has shown that women who use new type of contraceptive pills are twice as likely to develop life threatening blood clots as those who take older versions. Oral hormonal contraceptives have been known to increase the risk of a blood clot in deep leg veins, known as venous thromboembolism (VTE). These can prove fatal if they travel to the lungs. But, researchers at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, found the "third-generation" pills are doubly harmful than the older versions.
Medical errors during hospital stays make headlines, but far more common are problems that occur after patients — especially older ones — go home. Little research has focused on the critical weeks after discharge, and none has focused on rural patients — until now.
