The so-called "memory drugs" used to treat Alzheimer's disease and other causes of dementia also ease or prevent a barrage of troublesome behaviors that affect the majority of patients, ultimately lightening the burden on caregivers, researchers have found. They report their results in the March issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry.
Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder with no known drug treatment up until now. Researchers have finally found tweaking certain hormones could help patients with autism. There were two independent clinical trials including children and adults with autism that altered the effects of the hormone vasopressin and to assess the effects on social functioning.
The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF) honored Tony Mok, MD, with the 2013 Addario Lectureship Award for his continued ground-breaking work for lung cancer patients, doctors and caregivers around the world. Dr. Mok, of Chinese University of Hong Kong, received the award at the 14th International Lung Cancer Congress held on July 25 in Huntington Beach, California.
