In an ongoing effort to combat the rise in wandering-related tragedies and deaths within the Autism Spectrum Disorder community, the National Autism Association announced today its launch of the "Big Red Safety Box Program" made possible by a generous grant from the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation.

Implantable cardiac monitors reveal abnormalities in healthy mountaineers at high altitudes

Climbing above 4,000m can provoke abnormal heart rhythms in otherwise healthy mountaineers, with the abnormalities increasing with altitude, new research has shown.

Bacteria and fungi may protect against asthma in rural children: Study

Children who grow up on farms are less likely to suffer from asthma than other rural children. An international team of researchers including Dr. Markus Ege and Professor Erika von Mutius at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet has published a large-scale study that now indicates that this may be due to differences in the spectrum of microbes the two groups are likely to encounter.

Brain's serotonin system differs between men and women

Serotonin is a brain neurotransmitter that is critical to the development and treatment of depression and chronic anxiety, conditions that, for reasons still unknown, are much more common in women than in men.
