Women accounted for nearly 60 percent of the 39.4 million admissions to U.S. hospitals in 2007, according to the latest News and Numbers from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
Maternal health programs "deserve far more support" from the U.S. in part because the country knows "exactly what to do to bring down maternal mortality and morbidity," New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof writes in an opinion piece.
When private prices for health care services decrease, Medicare spending increases, according to a new study.
