A national online survey was launched today to give members of the public the opportunity to set the research priorities in the field of ethnic inequalities and severe mental illness.
Neuroblastoma is one of the deadliest childhood cancers, accounting for 15 percent of pediatric cancer deaths. For patients with high-risk neuroblastomas, the five-year survival rate is 40 to 50 percent even with the most rigorous treatments available today.
More US patients with kidney failure started, stayed on, and switched to peritoneal dialysis following a payment policy implemented in 2011 by Medicare.
IRIN reports on allegations that a grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to Uganda was misused. "Evidence of the mismanagement of a $51 million malaria grant to Uganda from the Global Fund resulted in the July arrest of three Ministry of Health employees and prompted a police investigation into the matter," the news service writes.
Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc., a medical device company and manufacturer of the t:slim Insulin Pump, today announced that it is now taking orders for the t:flex Insulin Pump, with shipments planned to begin in June. The 480-unit t:flex Pump, cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in January 2015, is the largest capacity insulin pump currently offered in the United States.
