Researchers at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus, already focused on understanding and minimizing the effects of stroke in children, will receive $3 million as part of a national effort to better understand stroke.
ReVision Optics, a leading company in the research, development and manufacture of custom optical products to correct and maintain vision, announced today that it has begun its US clinical trial of the PresbyLens® corneal inlay. The clinical trial will evaluate the PresbyLens® corneal inlay for the correction of presbyopia, the age-related loss of near vision. The study began on April 6th with the treatment of three subjects by clinical investigator Dr. Stephen Slade of the Slade & Baker Vision Center in Houston, Texas.
Worldwide, obesity is becoming more prevalent. According to The World Health Organization, worldwide obesity has nearly doubled since 1980, and in 2008 25% of adults aged 20 and over were overweight, and another 11% were obese. Obesity has been identified as a major source of unsustainable health costs and numerous adverse outcomes, including morbidity and mortality due to hypertension, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and certain types of cancer.
Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, the world's leading provider of diagnostic testing, information and services, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued 510(k) clearance to the Simplexa Influenza A H1N1 (2009) test on the 3M Integrated Cycler. The Simplexa test, developed and manufactured by Quest Diagnostics' Focus Diagnostics business, is the first to be cleared by the FDA for use as an aid in the detection and differentiation of influenza A and 2009 H1N1 influenza viral RNA.
Decision Resources, Inc., a research and advisory firms focusing on pharmaceutical and health care issues, finds that restrictions by health insurers and government health authorities to control expenses may hurt the malignant melanoma drug market.
